The “Rivista Marittima” (the official review of the Italian Navy) published an interview with the Admiral Placido Torresi (Commander of the Italian Navy’s Air Forces).
We report an interesting paragraph on the future Italian maritime patrol aircraft: “Italy can no longer be without anti-submarine aviation: consequently, on the initiative of the Navy, the Ministry of the Defense has begun the process of analyzing and selecting a maritime patrol aircraft with strong anti-submarine capabilities that can guarantee high hourly autonomy and adequate range of action to be used effectively in the entire Mediterranean basin and beyond, if necessary.
In this perspective, the available solutions are not lacking both in the domestic and foreign industry: a list of possible candidates, not exhaustive, are the Leonardo C-27 in the ASW version, the Boeing P-8 “Poseidon” of the American Boeing (in service with the United States, Australia, India, Norway, New Zealand, United Kingdom and South Korea) and the Japanese Kawasaki P-1“.
