Eyes on Syria (and Russian ships)

New surveillance missions morning over the eastern Mediterranean:

  • a USAF Boeing KC-135R (reg. 62-3502) is carrying out an aerial refuelling mission over the sea off Syria
  • a little further south a USAF Bombardier E-11A (reg. 12-9506) is orbiting the eastern Mediterranean;
  • a USAF Boeing RC-135W (reg. 62-4130 – callsign SAURON51) now in action north of Iraq has long orbited off Syria
  • a RAF Airbus KC.2 (reg. ZZ331) is leaving RAF Akrotiri eastbound

Interestingly, Russian navy ships have just these days left the port of Tartus, Syria, for new missions in the Mediterranean.

The task force became active again with the vast majority of assigned vessels being deployed on Oct-22, leaving only the Improved Kilo class submarine and the Aleksandrit class minehunter in port. https://t.co/UpXcZ6vhKd
