Unusual situation in the Gulf of Sirte off the coast of Misurata. On June 23rd, the Russian cargo ship VIKTOR ZABELIN (IMO: 9210256) arrived in the area and has been moving very slowly in the area since then. It has now been 14 days, and the ship continues to move up and down in that stretch of sea.
Today (although it is a rather common mission), a USN Lockheed EP-3E Aries II (reg. 156517) operated in the area (probably off the coast of Tripoli) before returning to Souda Bay AB around 4:00 PM CEST.
It is not excluded that during its flight, the Aries may have had a look at what the Russian ship is doing.
