New Russian Entries into the Mediterranean Last Night

Around 20:00 CEST yesterday, two Russian naval units from the Baltic fleet passed through the Strait of Gibraltar: the Neustrashimy frigate (of the class by the same name) and the Yelnya tanker.

Both ships had previously made a courtesy visit to Cuba.

These are the most significant entries in recent weeks, reinforcing the Russian presence in the Mediterranean, which had been reduced to a minimum.

The two ships are headed to the Syrian port of Tartus, though it is unclear whether they will make any stops at any “friendly” ports along the way.
