New Russian submarine enters the Mediterranean Sea

The Russian Navy Sliva-class tug “Evgeniy Churov” transmitted a very low-frequency message at 18:10 UTC, reporting sea and weather conditions along with its position. From this message, we can deduce that the tug entered the Mediterranean Sea this afternoon.

The Churov’s message

However, the tug is not traveling alone; it is escorting the Black Sea Fleet’s Kilo-class submarine T636.3 B-261 “Novorossiysk“.

Both units are en route to Tartus in Syria, where it is highly likely that the “Novorossiysk” will relieve the submarine “Ufa,” which will return to Russia.
