A series of United States Air Force (USAF) aircraft has embarked on a journey from Ramstein Air Base in Germany towards an unspecified area in the Gulf. As shown on the map, the air convoy consists of several Boeing KC-135R tankers used for in-flight refueling.
The route followed by the aircraft highlights their path through European skies towards the Middle East. The presence of multiple Boeing KC-135R tankers (reg. 59-1460, 58-0117, 59-1467, 58-0074) underscores the logistical importance of the operation: in-flight refueling is essential to keep other aircraft, such as fighters or bombers, airborne for extended periods.
Yesterday, we observed a similar flight, necessary for the transfer of a squadron of USAF F-16s to Qatar. Today’s tankers do not appear to be accompanying other aircraft, suggesting that this could be a deployment to an operational area given the recent escalation in the crisis between Israel and Iran.
