At dawn today, the Russian Navy spy ship Yantar entered the Mediterranean through the Strait of Gibraltar. Officially classified as a research vessel, the ship is equipped with systems for monitoring electromagnetic emissions, a mini-submarine, and tools for seabed scanning.
Last week, the Yantar lingered for an extended period in the Irish Sea, between Great Britain and Ireland, in an area crossed by numerous undersea cables, raising attention and concern within NATO circles.

It is believed that its entry into the Mediterranean could be for a similar mission, which paradoxically poses a greater risk today than the cruises of Russian frigates armed with hypersonic missiles.
Currently, the ship’s destination is Algiers, but we will closely monitor its route to understand its activities in the Mediterranean.
