The USS Truman CSG entered the Mediterranea Sea

In the late morning, the Carrier Strike Group (CSG) of the USS Harry Truman (CVN-75) entered the Mediterranean Sea through the Strait of Gibraltar.

The American aircraft carrier is accompanied by at least three surface vessels:

  • the destroyer USS Stout (DDG55),
  • the Italian frigate ITS Carabiniere (F593),
  • and the Spanish frigate SPS Méndéz Nunez (F104).

The USS Truman was present in the Mediterranean at the onset of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and since then, American aircraft carriers have been regularly deployed in the region.

The air wing onboard the USS Harry Truman includes the following components:

  1. Strike Fighter Squadrons:
    • “Red Rippers” (VFA-11) – F/A-18F from Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia.
    • “Pukin’ Dogs” (VFA-143) – F/A-18E from Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia.
    • “Sunliners” (VFA-81) – F/A-18E from Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia.
    • “Knighthawks” (VFA-136) – F/A-18E from Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia.
  2. Electronic Attack Squadron:
    • “Main Battery” (VAQ-144) – EA-18G from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington.
  3. Airborne Command and Control Squadron:
    • “Seahawks” (VAW-126) – E-2D from Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.
  4. Fleet Logistics Squadron:
    • “Rawhides” (VRC-40 Detachment) – C-2A from Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.
  5. Helicopter Squadrons:
    • “Proud Warriors” (HSM-72) – MH-60R from Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.
    • “Dragonslayers” (HSC-11) – MH-60S from Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida.
