Stalemate off the coast of Syria

The stalemate continues for the Russian naval forces previously stationed in Syria. While repatriation flights of personnel and equipment to Syria are ongoing, the future of the ships formerly based in Tartus remains uncertain.

The Russian units have been at sea for nearly two weeks, having left the docks of the Syrian port but not venturing far. They remain anchored within Damascus’s territorial waters.

It is possible that negotiations are underway to secure continued use of the Syrian port, which might explain why Moscow’s ships are staying close. For now, it remains unclear where they could realistically go.
