AAR mission for an Italian tanker

A mission is currently underway that we do not frequently have the opportunity to track. An Italian Air Force Boeing KC-767A (reg. MM62227), which took off from Pratica di Mare Air Base, is conducting an AAR (Air-to-Air Refueling) mission over northern Albania.

This type of mission has become routine for NATO assets since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as it supports CAP (Combat Air Patrol) missions carried out by NATO fighters to defend the airspace of countries bordering Russia or Ukraine.

The aircraft most frequently involved in this type of activity are U.S. and NATO tankers, which is why a mission of this kind conducted by an Italian asset is rather rare, especially in that area.
