Unusual Aerial Activity Over the Balkans: NATO Surveillance Intensifies

Share
Share

Highly unusual situation today in the Balkans.

In recent days, we had observed significant SIGINT activity near Serbia carried out by NATO assets. However, something unprecedented is happening today.

A US Army Bombardier 650 ARTEMIS (reg. N159L – c/s BRIO66) is currently orbiting over Bosnia, from where it can monitor most of Serbian territory. This is not the first time this asset has been used for such a mission.

What is unprecedented, however, is the deployment of a USAF Northrop Grumman RQ-4B (reg. 10-2045 – c/s FORTE11), which took off from Sigonella for a similar operation. Right now, a Global Hawk drone is orbiting over western Bulgaria, near the Serbian border.

We have never seen one of the USAF drones from Sigonella used in this area before.
