The U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) collided with the bulk carrier M/V Besiktas-M on Wednesday evening, north of Port Said, Egypt, in the Mediterranean Sea.
The U.S. Navy stated that the carrier did not experience flooding and no crew members were injured.
The damage is reportedly above the carrier’s waterline, and no aircraft on the deck were affected.
The Harry S. Truman strike group is currently operating in the Red Sea against the threat posed by Houthi rebels.
However, the Truman and the destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109) made a port call last week at the U.S. naval base in Souda Bay, Crete, Greece.
The Truman’s position at the time of the incident suggests that the carrier was sailing toward the Red Sea.
