Today, the Russian submarine Krasnodar passed off the southern coast of Sicily as it continued its eastward journey. Once again, multiple NATO assets took turns monitoring its movements.
A US Navy Boeing P-8A, which took off from NAS Sigonella, orbited for an extended period over the submarine’s location, alongside the tug Çhurov (though the tracking data is incomplete due to limited coverage in the area).
Notably, for the first time, we detected what is likely the presence of a French Navy Atlantique (reg. 18), which departed from NAS Lorient. While we lack direct tracking data confirming its presence in the area of the Russian vessels, the two-hour gap between the last recorded position and the first return flight trace makes its presence in the operational zone highly probable.
Lastly, an Italian Air Force ATR P-72A (reg. MM62298) conducted operations in the same area this afternoon and is very likely still active there as of 20:00 CET, following the same path where the Poseidon operated this morning.

All Russian maritime movements should be shadowed. Especially after damage to undersea cables in Baltic and elsewhere.
