New Mission Over the Black Sea for French Fighter Jets

After last week’s complex French mission over the Black Sea, this new week also begins with another operation led by Paris. A Mirage 2000D (reg. 657, c/s CARNAC11), though it is likely that more aircraft were involved, took off from Romania and flew over the Black Sea, pushing significantly eastward.

The entire mission took place in international airspace but within the Turkish FIR. It is unclear whether similar missions have been conducted in the past (perhaps with transponders off) or if this represents a new development in recent days.

What is certain, however, is the message France is sending with this kind of operation—reaffirming its commitment, both symbolically and concretely, to supporting Kyiv during this highly delicate phase of the conflict.
