Yesterday, around 14:00 CET, a Turkish drone, likely a Bayraktar TB2, flew over the Greek island of Kastellorizo.
Turkish violations of Greek FIR without prior authorization, as well as incursions into Greek airspace by Turkish aircraft, are not uncommon (it is important to note that FIR and airspace are two different things). However, such a deep incursion is rather rare—especially one that is trackable.
Despite both being NATO members, Greece and Turkey remain in constant tension due to disputes over maritime borders in the Aegean Sea and their respective exclusive economic zones.
