Yesterday morning, until 1:30 PM CEST, a new French mission took place over the Black Sea.
The SIGINT (Signals Intelligence) mission was carried out by a French Air Force Dassault Rafale B (though it was likely at least two aircraft involved).
It is worth noting that the Rafale, thanks to the SPECTRA system, can conduct reconnaissance missions without the need for an external pod. The SPECTRA system has built-in SIGINT capabilities, allowing it to collect and analyze electromagnetic signals.
With its advanced sensors, SPECTRA can:
- Detect, classify, and geolocate enemy radar and radio emissions.
- Analyze emission patterns to identify threats and create an electronic battlefield map.
- Store and update a signal database to enhance recognition and automatic threat response.
This capability allows the Rafale to operate with greater situational awareness and, in some cases, to carry out electronic reconnaissance missions in addition to active protection.

Also participating in the mission were an Airbus A330 MRTT (registration F-UJCQ) and a C-135FR (registration 525), both of which took off from France and provided support to the fighters during the operation, which extended to the far eastern part of the basin.
