Today, significant US aerial activity has been observed over southeastern Europe, particularly over Romania, Bulgaria, and the Black Sea, just a few kilometers from Russian-occupied Crimea. Radar tracks, gathered through our usual observation network, show multiple US military aircraft conducting simultaneous surveillance and intelligence-gathering missions.
Confirmed Aircraft:
- Northrop Grumman RQ-4B Global Hawk (USAF)
Identified with the callsign FORTE10, this high-altitude, long-endurance UAV was spotted flying over international airspace above the Black Sea. Its consistent looping flight pattern indicates an ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) mission focused on Crimea and the southern Ukrainian coast. - Boeing P-8A Poseidon (US Navy)
This maritime patrol aircraft, specialized in anti-submarine warfare and naval monitoring but also in SIGINT operations operated within Romanian airspace, flying routes south of Bucharest and along the Black Sea coast.
The simultaneous presence of surveillance platforms like the P-8A Poseidon and the Global Hawk points to an increased tempo of ISR operations in the region, likely in response to Russian military or naval movements in Crimea or the Sea of Azov. The aircrafts’ repetitive flight patterns confirm persistent monitoring, aimed at gathering electronic intelligence and high-definition imagery.
These missions are part of NATO’s ongoing efforts to deter and monitor activities along its eastern flank, particularly in light of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
