Arrivals in Misrata

This morning, two military aircraft belonging to the Italian and Turkish armed forces carried out a logistical mission with Misurata, Libya as their final destination.

A Lockheed C-130J of the Italian Air Force (registration MM62196, callsign IAM4662) took off from Pisa and followed a direct southern route, flying over the Tyrrhenian Sea and Malta, before entering Libyan airspace and landing at the Misurata military airport.

Meanwhile, a Turkish Air Force Airbus A400M (registration 17-0080, callsign TUAF815) departed from Ankara, following the so-called Balkan route that bypasses Greece, and also headed toward Misurata, where it landed shortly before the Italian aircraft.

The coordinated arrival of the two transport aircraft is related to logistical support missions. Misurata remains a strategic hub for international presence in the North African country.

Today’s mission confirms not only the continued involvement of both Italy and Turkey in Libya, but also the active role of their respective air forces in ensuring logistical links and support on the ground, in a still-sensitive geopolitical context.
