A very long mission for an USAF Sentry

Last night, around 22:00 CEST, a USAF Boeing E-3B Sentry (reg. 76-1604 – callsign TRIDENT25) conducted a long orbit west of Sardinia.

So far, nothing particularly unusual—although USAF Sentry missions over the Mediterranean are relatively rare. What’s peculiar is that the AWACS departed directly from Oklahoma City approximately 10 hours earlier to carry out the mission.

After completing its orbits, the aircraft landed at NAS Rota in Spain.

The reasons behind this mission remain unknown.

(thank you to Aaron)
