This morning, we’re tracking an unusual mission involving a USAF drone. A Northrop Grumman RQ-4B Global Hawk (reg. 09-2049, callsign FORTE10), which took off from NAS Sigonella, is currently orbiting over the eastern Mediterranean, between Cyprus and Egypt.
The area is roughly the same where several US Navy P-8A missions were observed in recent days. What stands out this time—besides the patrol zone, which is relatively distant from the coasts of Middle Eastern countries—is that the mission is being conducted by a USAF asset, not a US Navy one. While the Navy’s MQ-4C Triton drones typically operate in the Mediterranean, USAF Global Hawks are more commonly employed over the Black Sea or the Baltic region.
It’s still unclear what exactly is drawing U.S. attention to this area, but the concentration of recent missions suggests heightened interest or concern.
Dear Sir,
maybe I can complete Your Information:
At the same time (9-10 a.m.) there was also a US Air Force Boeing RC 135 (SIGINT) patroling along the coast of Syria
and one NATO Boeing E-3 (AWACS) circling in the area of Adana (Turkey).
Maybe watching out for Iranian Attacks on Israel (or Europe)?!
Sorry for having made any screenshots.
Regards from Austria, Andreas Wagner-Wehrborn
