US Navy missions continue over the Eastern Mediterranean. For several days now, surveillance flights have been focusing on the area between Cyprus and Egypt, where we’ve also tracked USAF assets such as Global Hawks operating out of Sigonella.
Today’s missions involved a US Navy Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton (reg. 169660 – c/s BLACKCAT5), which spent the entire day orbiting south of Cyprus, and a Boeing P-8A Poseidon that arrived in the area around 19:00 CEST to begin a new surveillance sortie.
The reasons behind this continued presence remain unclear, but US Navy assets have been consistently monitoring the region for over a week.
