Curious route for a Stratotanker

Share

Unusual route for this USAF Boeing KC-135R (reg. 57-2605), which took off from RAF Mildenhall and headed toward southern France for an AAR mission.

Interestingly, during the outbound leg, the tanker carefully avoided the French FIR (lack of clearance?).

On the return flight, however, the aircraft followed the shortest route, entering both the Paris FIR and French airspace.
