This morning, two key US surveillance assets operated simultaneously off the coast of western Libya, highlighting ongoing American interest in the region’s evolving security dynamics.
A US Army Bombardier 650 ARTEMIS (registration N488CR) conducted an extensive surveillance mission over international waters north of Tripoli. The aircraft, equipped for advanced electronic and signal intelligence (SIGINT), followed a wide racetrack, likely gathering data on military and communication activities in Libya.
At the same time, a US Navy MQ-4C Triton (registration 169804, callsign BLKCAT5) also flew for several hours a parallel mission in the same area. The MQ-4C is a high-altitude, long-endurance UAV designed for maritime ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) missions. Its presence, combined with the ARTEMIS aircraft, suggests a coordinated intelligence-gathering operation, possibly focused on monitoring the ongoing activity of local militias, smuggling routes, or foreign military presence in western Libya.
This dual mission reflects continued US surveillance interest in the central Mediterranean, particularly near Libya’s coastline, which remains a hotspot of instability and foreign influence.
