A United States Air Force Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules (registration 15-5822, callsign LION467) is returning to Sigonella Air Base (Sicily) after completing a mission in Libya.

The aircraft took off earlier today from Sigonella and flew south over the central Mediterranean, making stops in both Benghazi and Misrata. After completing its operations on the ground, the C-130J began its return journey northbound, transiting over Malta en route to Sicily.

While the exact nature of the mission has not been disclosed, such flights are typically linked to U.S. diplomatic support, military logistics, or cooperation with local forces. Libya remains a strategic area of interest, and these missions underline the enduring U.S. presence and ability to rapidly project capability into North Africa.

Sigonella continues to play a pivotal role as a forward base for U.S. and NATO operations in the Mediterranean and beyond.
