This morning, two US Navy Grumman C-2A Greyhounds (reg. 162162 & 162157) were tracked operating from NAS Sigonella towards the central Mediterranean, likely conducting logistics and personnel transfers in support of the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) Carrier Strike Group (CSG), which entered the region over the weekend.

The two Greyhounds had been redeployed to Sigonella on Saturday, in a move that clearly anticipated the arrival of the carrier strike group into the Mediterranean. Today’s activity confirms that the Ford CSG is now operating in the central Mediterranean, likely en route to or already within the operational area assigned to the U.S. Sixth Fleet.

The USS Gerald R. Ford is the newest and most advanced aircraft carrier in the US Navy. Her presence in the region comes at a time of renewed strategic focus on the Mediterranean, with heightened activity across NATO and partner forces in response to ongoing tensions in Eastern Europe, North Africa, and the wider Middle East.

As always, the movements of US Navy logistics aircraft offer key insights into the positioning and readiness of major naval assets—today’s flights are another clear indication that operations in the Mediterranean are intensifying.
