This afternoon a US Army Bombardier 650 Artemis (reg. N159L) carried out a new surveillance mission over the Black Sea.
Departing from Romania, the aircraft followed a route covering the western and central parts of the basin, reaching the area off northern Turkey before heading back towards the Romanian coast.
The Artemis is equipped with advanced ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) sensors and is used by the United States to monitor activity in the region, particularly Russian movements in Crimea and the surrounding maritime area.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, US and NATO reconnaissance aircraft have been regularly operating in international airspace over the Black Sea. These missions aim to gather strategic intelligence and keep constant watch on Russian forces based in Crimea and along the eastern shore.
Thanks to its endurance and sophisticated sensor suite, the Bombardier 650 Artemis is among the most modern assets employed by the United States in intelligence missions over Eastern Europe.
