Today, two NATO assets are carrying out new surveillance missions over the Black Sea.
A US Navy Boeing P-8A Poseidon operated for several hours in the eastern part of the basin, reaching off the Russian coast near Novorossiysk, home to the main Russian naval base in the Black Sea.
At the same time, an Italian Air Force Gulfstream E.550 CAEW (reg. MM62303, c/s IAM1494) operated in Romanian airspace, providing early warning and command-and-control capabilities in support of the allied mission.
The tracks highlight the coordination between the two aircraft, with the Poseidon focusing on maritime surveillance and the Italian CAEW ensuring the overall tactical picture.
Such missions – increasingly frequent – demonstrate NATO’s constant commitment to monitoring Russian activities in the Black Sea area.
