Some calculations about the USS Gerald R. Ford

At this moment, a USN Grumman C-2A (reg. 162157) is about to land at NAS Sigonella after taking off from the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), which is sailing southwest of Sardinia.

What makes this flight particularly interesting is that it allows us to estimate the carrier’s course and speed. The aircraft landed on the carrier around 16:30 and took off again at 18:36.

By comparing the two positions—roughly 55–60 nautical miles apart—we can infer that the USS Ford is proceeding on a 155° heading at a speed of approximately 27 knots.
