A US Navy Boeing P-8A Poseidon carried out an extensive surveillance mission today over the Black Sea region, departing from NAS Sigonella.
After crossing Greece and Bulgaria, the aircraft entered Romanian airspace, where it performed several orbits north of Bucharest — a pattern consistent with an aerial refueling activity before proceeding toward the Black Sea.
The Poseidon’s activity fits within the regular NATO ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) framework aimed at monitoring Russian naval and air movements in the area, particularly following recent tensions and increased Russian presence near Crimea.
After completing its mission, the aircraft retraced its route toward the Mediterranean, returning to Sigonella.
