The USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group (CSG), currently operating in the Adriatic Sea, has reportedly been ordered by the U.S. administration to leave the Mediterranean and head toward the Caribbean. The move — confirmed by multiple U.S. media outlets including Reuters and The Wall Street Journal — aims to strengthen American presence near Venezuela as tensions rise between Washington and Caracas.
According to official sources, the redeployment is part of a broader effort to support operations against drug-trafficking networks and to increase deterrence toward the Maduro regime. The Ford will operate under U.S. Southern Command, joining other U.S. Navy assets already active in the region.
This sudden shift marks a notable change in U.S. priorities. The Ford’s presence in the Adriatic had served as a visible symbol of NATO deterrence and stability in the central Mediterranean. Its departure may temporarily reduce U.S. naval visibility in the area.
