HMS Prince of Wales in Naples

Both the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales (R09) and the Type 45 destroyer HMS Dauntless (D33) are currently anchored off Naples.

The two units of the UK Carrier Strike Group are in Italian waters as part of their ongoing deployment in the central Mediterranean. In recent days HMS Prince of Wales entered the Tyrrhenian Sea with an embarked air wing of 24 F-35B jets, the largest number ever deployed on a British carrier of the Queen Elizabeth class, while participating in Exercise Falcon Strike 2025.

Their prolonged stop off Naples suggests a short operational pause in the deployment rather than active sailing, following several intense days of training activity. Over the past weeks we have been tracking the carrier throughout her Mediterranean transit, including her passage through the Strait of Messina and her operations alongside allied air and naval assets.
