A particularly intense morning of activity for the Turkish Navy, which deployed four ATR 72-600 TMPA maritime patrol aircraft simultaneously across the Eastern Mediterranean.
The first pair, MARTI24 (reg. TCB-755) and MARTI42 (reg. TCB-753), operated in the area southwest of Türkiye. Both aircraft followed wide patrol patterns between the Datça peninsula and the waters north of Rhodes. While this region is routinely monitored by Turkish maritime patrol assets, today’s tracks extended farther west than usual, approaching the edge of the Greek FIR. The presence of two aircraft in the same sector highlights the significance attributed to this portion of the Aegean–Eastern Mediterranean interface.
Further east, two additional ATR 72-600 TMPA aircraft, TURNA65 (reg. TCB-754) and ATA01 (reg. TCB-756), carried out a concurrent mission off the coast of Antalya. TURNA65 flew an extremely dense and repetitive on-station pattern typical of focused surveillance, while ATA01 remained in close support, patrolling the surrounding area. This region has seen sustained military and maritime activity in recent weeks, including NATO, EU and regional assets.
Seeing four Turkish Navy ATR 72s airborne at the same time is not common, and underscores a significant ISR effort covering both the central and eastern sectors of the Eastern Mediterranean. All flights remained at all times over international waters.
With multiple regional dynamics in play, Ankara continues to rely heavily on its maritime patrol fleet to maintain situational awareness and monitor sensitive maritime corridors.
