For several days we have been recording very similar patterns involving French Air Force tanker assets flying over the Myrtoan Sea, between Crete and he Peloponnese, and today was no exception.
This morning an Airbus A330 MRTT (reg. F-UJCS), operating as FAF4098 and departing from Montpellier, headed southeast across the central Mediterranean before establishing an extended holding pattern off the coast of the Peloponnese.
Although no receiver aircraft were visible on open sources, the repeated presence of French tankers in the same area strongly suggests ongoing AAR training missions conducted together with Hellenic Air Force fighters. France and Greece regularly carry out joint activities, and aerial refuelling training is a key component of their interoperability.
The location of today’s track, entirely inside Greek FIR and Greek airspace, is consistent with previous sessions observed in recent days. These missions allow both crews and fighter units to maintain proficiency ahead of potential NATO taskings in the region.
