Two NATO E-3 Sentry aircraft are active today over Eastern Europe, providing wide-area surveillance at a moment of persistent tension along the Alliance’s eastern flank.
The first aircraft, flying as NATOO1 (reg. LX-N90445), departed from the NATO E-3A Component base at Geilenkirchen and headed southeast, crossing Central Europe before reaching its patrol area over Romania, near the Black Sea. This region remains a key focus for NATO ISR operations, especially in light of ongoing Russian activity across the Black Sea basin.
At the same time, a second Sentry, NATOO5 (reg. LX-N90444), is operating over northern Poland, where it has been performing a series of holding patterns close to the Belarusian border. These orbits are consistent with routine monitoring of air movements in a zone that has seen an increase in military flights over recent months.
Although simultaneous AWACS operations in the region are not unusual, the deployment of two E-3s on different sectors of the eastern flank highlights the continuous effort by NATO to maintain situational awareness from the Baltic to the Black Sea. These missions provide real-time data to the Alliance, supporting air policing, deterrence efforts, and the overall readiness posture of NATO air forces.
As always, both aircraft remain strictly within NATO and EU airspace throughout their sorties.
