Libya calling

This morning a United States Air Force C-130J (registration 15-5831) departed from NAS Sigonella for a rare mission to Libya, conducting stops in both Tripoli and Benghazi.

The aircraft initially arrived in Sicily from Tunis, suggesting an ongoing multi-leg operation in the central Mediterranean. After leaving Sigonella, the C-130J flew directly to Tripoli, where it made a short stopover, before continuing east along the Libyan coast to Benghazi.

Once its activities in Cyrenaica were completed, the aircraft turned west and is now heading back toward Tunisia, the same country from which it departed prior to its arrival in Sigonella earlier today.

While flights between Sigonella and Libya do occur from time to time, the combination of Tunis–Sigonella–Tripoli–Benghazi–Tunis in a single mission is unusual. Such profiles typically indicate diplomatic, logistical, or support activities carried out by US forces in the broader region.

As always, the exact nature of the mission remains undisclosed.
