In recent days, the Italian Guardia di Finanza patrol vessel Tenente Petrucci (PV10) has been operating south of Crete as part of an ongoing Frontex mission in the eastern Mediterranean.
According to AIS data, the unit is currently based in Heraklion, from where it has been carrying out patrols in the waters south of the island. Today’s track shows the vessel maneuvering around the small island of Gavdos, a strategic point between Crete and the Libyan SAR zone.
Its presence in the area aligns with Frontex’s continued efforts to support Greek authorities in monitoring maritime traffic and strengthening border surveillance in one of the most sensitive sectors of the EU’s external frontier.
Tenente Petrucci is one of the newer patrol vessels assigned to international operations, and her deployment highlights Italy’s ongoing contribution to joint European maritime security activities.
