An Italian Air Force KC-767A (registration MM62228), operating as GOSSIP12, has carried out an extended aerial refuelling mission today over Iraq.
After departing from Kuwait, the tanker proceeded north into Iraqi airspace, where it performed multiple holding patterns between Erbil and Mosul. These racetrack orbits, clearly visible from flight-tracking data, indicate prolonged on-station activity in support of coalition aircraft operating in the area.
This type of mission is fully consistent with Italy’s long-standing contribution to multinational operations in the region, where Italian assets routinely provide aerial refuelling support to allied aircraft engaged in reconnaissance, surveillance or counter-terrorism tasks.
