This morning an Italian Air Force ATR P-72A MPA (registration MM62298, callsign IAM4101) carried out a standard maritime patrol mission over the Sicily Channel.

After departing from Sigonella, the aircraft headed south, flying a wide surveillance pattern between Sicily, Tunisia, and Malta. The track shows the typical route operated during routine monitoring of one of the most sensitive areas in the central Mediterranean, where Italian assets contribute daily to maritime security, search-and-rescue awareness, and the detection of suspicious activities.

The ATR P-72A fleet continues to play a key role in Italy’s control of the southern approaches, ensuring persistent coverage over sea lanes that remain strategic for both national and EU interests.
