This morning, US and Israeli forces conducted coordinated strikes against military targets inside the Islamic Republic of Iran, marking one of the most significant escalations in years between Tehran and its adversaries. According to official statements from the Israel Defense Forces and the US Department of Defense, the operation focused on missile infrastructure and command facilities. The action follows weeks of mounting tension and the collapse of diplomatic efforts, and it could reshape the regional military balance in the coming days.

The strikes reportedly targeted facilities linked to Iran’s ballistic missile program and elements of its command-and-control network. Israeli officials framed the operation as pre-emptive, aimed at neutralizing what they described as imminent threats. Washington characterized its role as part of a coordinated effort to degrade offensive capabilities that could be used against regional allies and US forces.

Airspace restrictions were rapidly imposed across parts of the region, and force protection levels at Western bases were raised within hours. The tempo and synchronization of the strikes suggest months of contingency planning and intelligence preparation, rather than a reactive decision taken overnight.

An Israeli Air Force Boeing 707 tanker departed from a base this morning to support Tel Aviv’s aircraft involved in the strikes against Iran.

From a military perspective, the targeting logic appears clear: degrade missile launch capacity, disrupt coordination nodes, and impose temporary paralysis on response chains. If successful, this would reduce the scale and precision of any immediate Iranian retaliation.

However, degrading infrastructure is not equivalent to eliminating capability. Iran’s doctrine emphasizes redundancy, dispersal, and the use of proxy actors across multiple theaters. Retaliation could therefore emerge not only through direct missile launches, but via affiliated groups operating in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, or Yemen.

The tracking image above highlights a significant concentration of aerial refuelling and ISR assets across the Middle East in the hours following this morning’s strikes. Two US Air Force KC-135R Stratotankers (57-1468 and 62-3498) left Tel Aviv, while additional tanker activity was visible over Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. Notably, a UAE Air Force A330 MRTT (WABEL01) and a Saudi A330 MRTT were airborne near Qatar and Riyadh respectively, suggesting a broader regional posture adjustment. At the same time, a US Navy MQ-4C Triton (VVPE661) was operating over the Gulf of Oman, providing persistent ISR coverage.

This pattern indicates not only strike support but sustained situational awareness and air-to-air refuelling capacity across multiple corridors. The geographic spread — from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Gulf — suggests contingency planning for both defensive counter-strike scenarios and force protection of regional bases.

Whether this marks the beginning of a sustained air campaign or a limited punitive strike remains unclear.
