US C-17 logistic bridge intensifies as coalition operations against Iran expand

In recent hours, multiple U.S. Air Force C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft have been tracked crossing the Eastern Mediterranean toward Jordan, Crete and other regional hubs supporting ongoing operations against Iran. The flights form part of a continuous logistical effort moving personnel, equipment and supplies to forward bases involved in the campaign.

Open-source tracking data today shows several aircraft – including callsigns RCH584, RCH633, RCH649, RCH1819 and MOOSE53 – flying from Europe toward the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, converging on operational hubs supporting coalition forces.

A constant logistics pipeline

These movements are consistent with the large-scale U.S. military buildup observed in the region since late January and dramatically accelerated after the launch of the U.S.-Israeli offensive against Iran in recent days.

Heavy airlifters like the C-17 are the backbone of this effort. Each aircraft can transport more than 70 tons of cargo, including vehicles, ammunition, missile systems or hundreds of troops, allowing rapid reinforcement of forward bases and strike packages operating across the region.

Jordan in particular has become one of the key operational hubs. Satellite imagery and tracking data in recent weeks showed dozens of U.S. aircraft deployed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, including fighters, drones and transport aircraft supporting potential strike missions and regional air defense.

Crete – especially the Souda Bay complex – represents another critical node in the network, providing naval and air support infrastructure as well as missile defense protection amid Iranian threats against U.S. bases in the region.

Supporting the strike campaign

The logistical activity comes as the first phase of the U.S.-Israeli air campaign against Iran continues. According to U.S. military briefings, the initial wave involved more than 100 aircraft striking command centers, missile infrastructure and naval assets across Iran.

Maintaining such a tempo requires a constant supply chain: precision munitions, spare parts, maintenance crews, ground personnel and defensive systems must all be moved into theater continuously.

This is exactly where aircraft like the C-17 come into play. Unlike tactical aircraft, they rarely attract public attention, yet their constant presence is often the clearest indicator of the scale and duration of a military operation.
