An Italian Air Force Beechcraft King Air 350ER SPYDR (reg. MM623000) is conductinganother ISR mission today over the central Mediterranean, marking the second similar sortie in just two days. The aircraft, flying as IAM1482, operates between Tunisia and Sicily where it performed surveillance orbits. The repeated deployment suggests Italy is maintaining close monitoring of activity along this sensitive maritime corridor.
Tracking data shows the aircraft flying a racetrack pattern in international airspace between the Tunisian coast and southern Sicily. This type of orbit is typical for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, allowing onboard sensors to repeatedly scan the same area and collect signals and electronic intelligence.
The King Air 350ER equipped with the SPYDR system is one of the Italian Air Force’s specialized ISR platforms. It is designed to gather electronic emissions, communications and other data useful for building an operational intelligence picture.
Second mission in two days
Today’s flight follows a similar mission carried out yesterday, suggesting that the area may currently require sustained observation. Repeated ISR sorties are often used to monitor developments over time and detect changes in activity patterns across key maritime routes.
The corridor between Tunisia and Sicily is strategically important, sitting along routes used by both civilian shipping and military traffic across the central Mediterranean. Maintaining persistent surveillance here allows Italian authorities to track movements and signals across one of the most sensitive areas along NATO’s southern flank.

It’s interesting to see the continued Italian involvement in this area. The focus on Tunisia and Sicily makes a lot of sense given the geopolitical situation.
