In the last few hours, tracking systems have recorded a mission of particular interest conducted by a high-altitude USNavy Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton (reg. 169804 – c/s VVPE804).
The asset, which took off from the Sicilian base of NAS Sigonella, crossed the Eastern Mediterranean before heading towards the Middle East, eventually reaching the Persian Gulf.
The Route and Operational Area
What is particularly relevant when observing the track is the patrol area. The drone concentrated its orbits over the northern part of the Persian Gulf, remaining in the operational area for about 3 hours (notably, the drone operated with its transponder switched off, an unusual detail since Tritons have so far always operated with everything turned on.). This is a significant variation compared to the usual habits of this specific asset, which during its deployments in the region typically operates slightly further south.
Possible link to SAR operations
This shift of the operational focus to the north represents an interesting anomaly, especially considering that this is the second consecutive day we have recorded this exact flight pattern.
Given the geographical and temporal coincidence with recent events in the area, one hypothesis is that the Triton’s flight could be linked to the Search and Rescue (SAR) operations for the navigator of the F-15 downed yesterday. In any case, this is a logical assumption that currently lacks official confirmation.
After completing its three hours of surveillance, the drone began its return route and is currently heading back to the Sigonella base. We will continue to monitor the situation to record any new deployments in the coming days.

That’s fascinating to see the Triton deployed there. It makes sense that they’d want to support those F-15 operations with its long-range surveillance capabilities.
