A Turkish HAVA SOJ aircraft was tracked today over the central Black Sea during what appears to be a test and evaluation flight. The aircraft a Bombardier Global 6000 HAVA SOJ (reg. TC-SJB), flew north of the Turkish coast and conducted a series of manoeuvres over international waters, providing another glimpse into one of Türkiye’s most ambitious airborne electronic warfare programs.
While the flight does not appear to have been an operational mission, it remains noteworthy because the HAVA SOJ fleet is still undergoing testing and certification activities. Each publicly visible sortie offers valuable insight into the progress of a capability that will eventually provide the Turkish Air Force with advanced stand-off electronic warfare and electronic attack functions.
A New Electronic Warfare Platform
The HAVA SOJ program is being developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and ASELSAN and is based on the Bombardier Global 6000 business jet. Four aircraft are being converted into dedicated stand-off electronic warfare platforms capable of detecting, analysing and eventually disrupting hostile radar and communication systems from long distances.

The aircraft tracked today, registered TC-SJB, is one of the test platforms involved in the development effort. Rather than supporting military operations, flights such as this are typically used to validate sensors, mission systems, communications links and crew procedures before the fleet reaches full operational status.
Why These Flights Matter
Although the sortie was a test flight, its location over the Black Sea is still significant. The region offers a complex electromagnetic environment and provides an ideal area for evaluating advanced electronic warfare systems.
Turkey has invested heavily in developing indigenous electronic warfare capabilities in recent years, both airborne and ground-based. Once operational, the HAVA SOJ aircraft will complement other Turkish ISR and electronic warfare assets, giving Ankara greater autonomy in collecting and exploiting electromagnetic intelligence.
Today’s flight therefore reflects not an ongoing operation, but the continued maturation of a strategic capability that could become an important element of Turkish air power in the coming years.
