French Rafale and Belgian F-16 Operate Over the Black Sea as NATO Coordination Mission Reinforces Allied Presence

French Air Force Rafale Bs and Belgian Air Force F-16AMs operated over the Black Sea yesterday alongside a French Airbus A330 MRTT tanker and a NATO Multinational MRTT aircraft, highlighting continued Allied air activity along NATO’s eastern flank. The mission took place yesterday morning and was later confirmed by the French Air and Space Force as a coordinated surveillance flight conducted with European allies.

Coordinated Surveillance in a Strategic Area

According to the French Air and Space Force, the mission was aimed at monitoring an area of major importance for European security. The Black Sea has become one of NATO’s most sensitive regions since the start of the war in Ukraine, serving as a key corridor for military movements, intelligence collection and strategic signaling.

The participation of both French and Belgian fighters, supported by national and multinational tankers, demonstrates the increasingly integrated nature of NATO air operations.
