Typhoon Flag 23 Exercise in progress

The Italian national air exercise “Typhoon Flag 23” take place from August 28 to September 8 at the 4th Fighter Wing in Grosseto. The event, which is held annually, is aimed at the flight units of the Italian Air Force that use Eurofighter jets.

This year, the exercise was attended by four units: the 4th Wing of Grosseto, the 36th Wing of Gioia del Colle (Bari), the 37th Wing of Trapani and the 51st Wing of Istrana (Treviso). The aircraft and personnel of the four units conduct advanced training in complex operational scenarios, as well as developing advanced tactics for the use of the Meteor missile.

The weapons and tactics instructors, also known as “Weapons Instructors”, share what they had learned in the previous edition of Typhoon Flag and in other exercises in which the Armed Forces have participated. In this way, they are able to train the youngest pilots in the tactics and techniques for using the different weapon systems.

Typhoon Flag 23 represents an important opportunity for the Italian Air Force for several reasons. First, it allows for the standardization of operational and maintenance procedures among the various units. Second, it allows for the achievement of training objectives at various levels, improving the operational readiness of the pilots. Finally, it consolidates the operational tactics of the entire “EFA Community”, increasing the spirit of cooperation and sharing.
