US Navy Air Operations in the Eastern Mediterranean

After the transfer of the USS Eisenhower to the Red Sea (which is heading to the Persian Gulf), the USS Gerald Ford (CVN-78) is now in the Eastern Mediterranean with its Carrier Strike Group. The USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19), a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, is also in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The USS Ford is located west of Cyprus, while the USS Mesa Verde is located off the coast of Egypt. A Marines’ Lockheed KC-130J is orbiting in the area, likely refueling US Navy assets. Yesterday, the unit’s position was clearly identifiable by following the route of an MV-22 Osprey that took off from its deck.
