The flagship of the Pacific Fleet (PF), the missile cruiser “Varyag” (Slava class) has crossed the Suez Canal and entered the Mediterranean Sea. This was reported by the press service of the Eastern Military District of the Pacific Fleet.
“The Varyag crossed the Red Sea, demonstrating the presence of the St. Andrew’s flag of the Russian Navy in the region. In the Mediterranean Sea, the missile cruiser of the Pacific Fleet will operate according to the previously approved combat training plan of the fleet” added the Russian Navy’s press service.
The Varyag was deployed to the Mediterranean in 2022, during the initial months of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
It’s possible that in the coming days, the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov will also follow the Varyag, which is currently anchored in Massawa until April 5th. The Varyag is now heading to the port of Tartus.
