Road to Alaska

This morning we are tracking an unusual Italian Air Force traffic heading westward. It consists of a Boeing KC-767A tanker (reg. MM62228) and three Lockheed C-130J Hercules (reg. MM62193, MM62194, MM62191).

The tanker has conducted aerial refueling over the Tyrrhenian Sea, while the Hercules aircraft are heading towards Spain or the Azores (Lajes).

Several clues suggest that a transatlantic crossing is imminent. It is therefore highly likely that this flight is bound for Alaska, where the Italian Air Force Typhoons will participate in the Red Flag – Alaska 24-1 exercise from April 18 to May 3.
