ItaMilRadar is an open-source intelligence (OSINT) project focused on monitoring and analysing military aviation activity over Italy, the Mediterranean region, and surrounding areas.
The project was first launched in 2016 as a Twitter account dedicated to tracking military flights using publicly available flight-tracking data. In 2019, ItaMilRadar expanded into a full website, allowing for more in-depth analysis and structured reporting on military air and maritime movements.
Today the website receives more than one million visits per year, reflecting the growing global interest in open-source monitoring of military and strategic activity.
ItaMilRadar also maintains active social media accounts on Facebook and X, each followed by more than 45,000 users.
All the information published by ItaMilRadar is derived from open and publicly accessible sources. In particular, aircraft tracked on the website broadcast signals that are unencrypted and transmitted in clear text. These signals can be received by anyone with the appropriate radio equipment and are also available online through several public flight-tracking platforms.
ItaMilRadar does not operate its own receiver network. Instead, it aggregates and analyses data from widely used open platforms, including:
Thanks to its monitoring activity, ItaMilRadar is frequently cited by both Italian and international media outlets, including Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, La Stampa, Il Giornale, Il Messaggero, Rai GR1, SkyTG24, The Guardian, The Sun, and The Mirror.
