The Italian Navy’s Carlo Bergamini-class frigate “Alpino” (F594) yesterday morning intervened to rescue 7 Italian fishing boats threatened by the high-speed arrival of a rubber dinghy coming from the Cyrenaic coast (eastern Libya).

The Italian boats, which carried out fishing activities in international waters, were secured and heading north, into the central Mediterranean.

We can no longer allow our fishing boats, which legitimately fish in international waters, to be threatened or even seized by the Libyan authorities, as happened on 1 September 2020 by a Libyan patrol boat belonging to Haftar’s forces” said the Undersecretary of Defense, Stefania Pucciarelli.
